Position: Product Development Lab Assistant – Document Specialist
Department: Product Development
Reports To: Product Development Manager
Position Type: Full-Time
Position Summary:
The Product Development Lab Assistant – Document Specialist will manage and execute a variety of laboratory and documentation tasks to ensure the quality of our food products. Key responsibilities include checking sample specifications, preparing samples for testing, and managing inventory of department supplies. The ideal candidate will be highly organized with strong analytical skills and experience in food testing and documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
* Sample Management:
- Check and verify sample specifications to ensure they meet quality and regulatory standards.
- Prepare samples for various types of testing, including sensory evaluations, customer-specific tests, and triangle testing.
- Conduct triangle testing to evaluate product differences and ensure consistency.
* Documentation:
- Create and maintain Tentative Specifications for new and existing products.
- Complete data entry tasks in the Genesis nutritional program, ensuring accuracy and up-to-date information.
* Supply Management:
- Purchase supplies and materials as needed to support department activities.
- Stock and organize supplies to ensure efficient department operations.
* Vendor and Ingredient Qualification:
- Qualify replacement ingredients and secondary vendors to ensure they meet our quality and safety standards.
- Maintain documentation related to ingredient and vendor qualifications.
* Testing Procedures:
- Conduct various tests, including sensory & triangle tests, to evaluate product quality and consistency.
- Collaborate with the Product Development team to analyze test results and address any issues.
* Sample Shipping:
* Prepare and ship product samples to customers as required, ensuring proper packaging and documentation for safe and timely delivery.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field; preferred, but not necessary.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting, preferably within the food processing industry.
* Skills:
- Knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and equipment.
- Proficiency in data entry and use of the Genesis nutritional program.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Experience with sensory evaluation and triangle testing is preferred.
- Familiarity with food safety standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, USDA) is advantageous.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., ISO, HACCP) are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift to 25 pounds.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
- Ability to work in hot or cold environments for extended periods.
- Capability to work with laboratory chemicals and equipment.
- Ability to work with and around food allergens.
