DOE / TBD (depends on experience / to be determined) POSITION SUMMARY: The Control Room Operator will monitor & control the operation of the steam plant, power generation, & electrical distribution via a distributive control system. They will optimize and coordinate safe, environmentally sound, day-to-day power plant operation within contractual and budgetary requirements in compliance with all permits and regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following is a partial listing of Control Room Operator responsibilities; performs other duties as assigned:
Promotes safety awareness and the plant safety program, issues lockout/tagout, confined space, & hot work permits following company procedures. Ensures OSHA standards, practices, and procedures for lockout/tagout are followed.
Monitors the Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) and operates emission control equipment appropriately maintaining state and federal emission permit requirements.
Coordinates power production with maintenance activities. Assists with the execution of forecasted planned, maintenance, and unplanned outages.
Conducts routine rounds of equipment and corrects operational problems with equipment. Performs laboratory quality water testing and makes corrections to the process as necessary.
Cooperates with managers as needed in the daily operation of the plant. Identifies problems with plant equipment and clearly communicates the conditions associated with these problems to the plant maintenance group. Makes recommendations to improve equipment performance and reliability.
Maintains accurate legible logs, turnovers and other records of plant operation. Prepares necessary plant operation reports as required.
Participates in plant training and qualification program. Trains new employees. Provides work direction to Plant Technicians.
Possesses the ability to respond calmly and think clearly in emergency situations. Capable of maintaining composure and function, while prioritizing and responding in high pressure, stressful operational situations. Must be dependable, detail orientated, and work with all levels of management.
Occasionally required to work overtime (scheduled and call-in) to maintain staffing of the department.
EXPERIENCE AND GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 10 years solid fuel power plant operations experience. Experience operating Bailey Infi90 or comparable DCS. Excellent written communication skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Strong leadership qualities and team building skills are also required. Ability to read and write in English and perform mathematical computations; high school or vocational school diploma preferred. Valid Pennsylvania drivers license. Pass a respirator fit test and drug screening. Personal protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties. Able to work on feet for 12-hour periods, with stair and ladder climbing.
