Job Description

The Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) IT project management office (PMO) Group within Law, Safety, Justice is seeking an IT Business Analyst to join our team. This position will work closely with DOCCR business partners and IT staff, as well as other Law, Safety, Justice partners, to define and create technology solutions for business needs and processes. This work involves facilitating discussions around current business practices, envisioning future processes, leading projects, translating business and technical requirements, testing applications, implementing, and troubleshooting IT solutions, and working with technical staff to deliver solutions.

Location and hours:  
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at these locations: 701 4th Avenue South Minneapolis, MN 55415, Adult Corrections Facility located at 1145 Shenandoah Lane, Plymouth, MN 55447, and at Client and Community Restoration located at 3000 2nd Street North, Minneapolis, MN 55417, and remote as job duties require. Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable. This internship is intended to start in July 2024 and last 6 months in duration with the potential to extend on a case-by-case basis. The intern will work 20 hours per week. Work hours will typically be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., with flexibility.

While this position is designed as hybrid, based on current requirements hires reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

In this position, you will:
  • Provide business analysis services to institution and field staff for new and existing technology solutions, and especially for business-specific hardware and infrastructure needs.
  • Establish working relationships with IT staff and business partners to ensure quality partnerships to deliver IT solutions.
  • Learn standard methods for requirement elicitation, traceability, and requirement validation, measurement of system performance and analysis of performance measures.
  • Effectively communicate with technical and non-technical partners on projects and process improvements.
  • Support adoption of new tools and processes as they are implemented.
  • Negotiate solutions to technical problems between stakeholders.
  • Provide analytical support for system maintenance and support.  
Need to have:
  • Must be in one of the following for the Fall academic school year of 2024-2025:
    • Currently enrolled in an IT certificate, vocational, associate, bachelor's or master's degree program in IT or related fields.
    • Recent graduate (within in 6 months) in an IT certificate, vocational, associate, bachelor's or master's degree program in IT or related fields.  
  • Access to reliable internet connection and self-support remote office space.  
Nice to have:
  • Experience:
    • With IT-related tasks; requirements gathering and documentation, d ata mapping from database to database, integration analysis and planning, and d ata flow definition and documentation.
    • Writing, translating, and documenting functional and technical requirements.
    • Working in or around Community Corrections and/or Public Safety.
    • With business analysis processes and methodologies/frameworks (Waterfall, Agile). 
    • Working in an application development environment.
    • Crafting a variety of project artifacts such as project definitions, business requirements, feasibility studies, and recommendations.
    • As-Is/To-Be process definition and documentation.
    • Data Analysis.
    • Research and analysis of solutions, technology trends, and business analysis practices.
    • Microsoft products and/or equivalent Google products.
    • SharePoint document management.
  • Knowledge of:
    • IT systems
    • IT industry frameworks (IT Service Management, Agile, Dev Ops)
    • System development methodology
  • Ability to coordinate multiple project deliverables.
