The Genetic Counselor is a full-time clinical research staff member within the Basser Center working on genetic screening studies, including an electronic phenotyping study to identify and evaluate individuals eligible for hereditary cancer risk assessment and genetic testing, a polygenic risk score protocol, and a multicancer early detection assay protocol, as well as other genetics-related research protocols. They will work closely with research and clinical staff on the start-up and day-to-day operations and collaborate on workflow modifications as needed. The Genetic Counselor will be responsible for cancer risk assessment and counseling for individuals enrolled in research protocols as well as individuals seen clinically, who are found to be at high risk for hereditary cancer syndromes. He/she will participate in weekly calls, reporting on progress and troubleshooting when necessary.

Job Responsibilities

  • This is a full-time Genetic Counselor clinical research position within the Basser Center for BRCA working on an electronic phenotyping protocol to identify and evaluate individuals eligible for hereditary cancer risk assessment and genetic testing, a polygenic risk score protocol, and a multicancer early detection assay protocol , as well as other genetics-related research protocols. The Genetic Counselor will be responsible for cancer risk assessment and counseling for individuals enrolled in research protocols as well as individuals seen clinically, who are found to be at high risk for hereditary cancer syndromes. He/she will work closely with study staff on the start-up and day-to-day operations, as well to operationalize the protocols. He/she will participate in weekly calls, reporting on progress and troubleshooting when necessary.

    Core responsibilities include:
  • Perform individualized risk assessment, provide genetic counseling services, and genetic test coordination.
  • Disclose genetic testing results and coordinate participant follow-up as needed.
  • Perform day-to-day genetic counseling operations for genetic screening protocols within the Basser Center, including an electronic phenotyping study, polygenic risk score study, and multicancer early detection protocol.
  • Prepare for and participate in both study team and clinical team meetings.
  • Show vigilance in study participant protection, protocol compliance, and data quality.




QUALIFICATIONS:


Master degree in Genetic Counseling and 2 to 3 years' experience. Board certified or eligible for certification. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, counseling skills, flexibility, attention to detail, and comfortable working independently. Candidate must be comfortable using phone and email to speak with study participants, research investigators, and physicians at outside institutions.

  • Able to analyze appropriate family and risk factor information
  • Able to perform post-test counseling for genetic testing
