ABOUT WATER ENTERPRISE
The Water Enterprise manages our complex regional water supply system featuring reservoirs, tunnels, pipelines, and treatment plants. We serve 2.7 million Bay Area residential, commercial, and industrial customers with high-quality, great tasting water every day. Our protected watersheds in Tuolumne, Alameda, and San Mateo counties ensure that we deliver safe, reliable water throughout our service area. Under general direction the Chief Stationary Engineer, Water Treatment Plant Operator, is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment in large complex water treatment plant facility or a water distribution system. Positions in this Class may be located in any one of five (5) Bay Area counties.

Nature of work:
Some physical effort is required in the operation, repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment including kneeling, crouching, stooping, squatting and crawling in the performance of important and essential duties. This also includes exposure to working conditions where the performance of duties requires working outdoors and with chemicals.
Upon appointment to Class 7245, employees may be required to take a State mandated respirator medical examination (renewed annually) and be clean-shaven for respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus use. Employees may be required to pass CPR training annually and first aid training tri-annually.
If you are interested in this job, we are looking for people that have the following minimum
Experience:
Six (6) years of experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical machinery and equipment in a 10 million gallons per day (MGD) or larger water treatment/filtration plant, or water distribution system, of which two (2) years must have been in a supervisory capacity.
License and Certification:
Working Conditions: Walking and/or driving several miles a day to inspect facilities and remote pumping stations; using a respirator when conditions warrant, climbing and working off ladders (up to 16 foot); working in a damp environment and confined spaces; auditing alarm screens and identifying different levels of audible alarms; identifying leaks by smell in case of emergency; working on weekends, holidays, shifts, and overtime, as needed.

Supplemental Questionnaire Examination (Weight 100%)
The Supplemental Questionnaire is an exam and contents will be evaluated and scored. The purpose of the Supplemental Questionnaire Exam is to evaluate the experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities that candidates possess in job-related areas which have been identified as critical for this position. These may include but are not limited to:
Candidates will be placed on the eligible list in rank order according to their final score. Candidate scores on this examination may also be applied to other announcements involving other job titles when directed by the Human Resources Director. The department may administer additional position-specific selection procedures to make final hiring decisions.
DRUG TESTING REQUIREMENT: Applicants for positions in this classification who are not currently employed by the City and County of San Francisco in a safety-sensitive position represented by Stationary Engineers, Local 39, are required to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing. All employees in this classification may also be subject to drug and alcohol testing upon reasonable suspicion or after a work-related accident. Applicants with a positive result from a pre-employment drug test will be restricted from hire in safety-sensitive positions for six-months after the date of the positive test.
Eligible List/Score Report: A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores, and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible list, shall not be made public unless required by law. However, an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection upon request once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this civil service examination process is subject to change after adoption (e.g. as a result of appeals), as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission.
The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be twelve months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.
