Job Description

The following duties and responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's), and physical requirements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.  The information listed below is not intended to be construed as a complete listing of all duties and responsibilities, KSA's, and physical requirements required of this position since changes to the position may occur at any time or additional requirements may be added over the course of time.


SUMMARY:
Under general supervision from the department chair, the incumbent teaches Speech Communication courses as scheduled, cultivates a healthy teacher-student relationship, and engages the students in active learning. The incumbent will make recommendations regarding curriculum changes, text selection, and content revision. The incumbent will prepare course syllabi in subject area with stated objectives for each course and be willing to instruct both Distance Ed and Dual Credit courses which may include instruction at satellite campuses. The instructor will perform administrative aspects of instruction in a timely manner.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS):

Master's Degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Speech Communication. 

PREFERRED:

Experience teaching Communication Studies courses, including Public Speaking, on the college level
18 graduate hours in Theatre
A Doctorate Degree in Communication
Experience working on theatrical productions, including technical theatre experience (costumes, set, props, lighting, sound, etc.)

The incumbent will:

  • Teach day or night courses as assigned in Temple, Taylor, Hutto, and/or satellite ISD campuses as assigned.
  • Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, presentations, and papers as appropriate to discipline.
  • Administer, compile, and grade examinations as assigned.
  • Develop and Instruct Online, Dual Credit, and Hybrid Courses and coursework as assigned.
  • Must be able to drive to satellite campuses or high school campuses.
  • Cultivate healthy teacher-student relationships.
  • Engage students in active learning.
  • Assist with technical aspects of theatre productions.
  • Develop clear and innovative syllabi and course material.
  • Demonstrate professional written and oral skills in communication with students.
  • Utilize advancements in technology to improve instructional methodology. 
  • Incorporate best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Maintain accessibility to students for advisement and consultation.
  • Seek feedback to improve quality of teaching.
  • Attend conferences, workshops, or programs to enhance professional growth.
  • Participate in academic/professional organizations.
  • Develop and implement innovative course content based on current pedagogy.
  • Evidence a willingness to incorporate new concepts and theories to enhance professional growth.
  • Integrate a diverse set of perspectives and ideas into course curriculum. 
  • Demonstrate innovative thinking to problem solve within the classroom, the department, and the institution.
  • Demonstrate respect and professionalism with supervisors, colleagues, and students.
  • Foster collegiality within the department and division.
  • Evidence timely completion of administrative aspects of instructional responsibilities.
