Brief Summary of Work for this Position: The Assistant Director reports to the Associate Director of Campus Recreation Programs & Risk Management and is responsible for the overall planning, goal setting, assessment and coordination of the Competitive Sports Program (Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs). The Assistant Director directly supervises two coordinators and a graduate assistant and manages and coordinates scheduling for two outdoor field complexes, assigned special events, extramurals, special projects and handles various administrative tasks.
- Develop, implement, and review methods of assessment including personnel and programing and provide recommendations to the Associate Director.
- Conduct routine facility and equipment inspections to identify potential risks associated with all aspects of competitive sports facilities/programming with regard for participant safety in accordance with national and local standards and best practices.
- Develop, manage and reconcile general and sport club budgets on monthly and annual basis and follow university purchasing procedures; collaborate with the Coordinator of Business Operations on assigned funds.
- Oversite of all disciplinary procedures with participants, club members, team or club sanctions, and employees.
- Collaborate with the Publication and Communications Specialist to identify and develop marketing strategies and promotional efforts to engage the campus community.
- Manage and oversee Sport Club Council meetings/trainings, SGA allocation process and all informational meetings.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelors degree OR alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience: - Supervisory experience.
- Experience and ability to handle conflict to resolution.
- Masters degree in Recreation, Sports Management/Administration, Leadership, Higher Education, Physical Education, Outdoor Education, experiential education or related field. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institution.
- Three to five years collegiate recreation programming experience or 5+ years recreation programming for a municipal recreation program and related experiences. Ideally, 2-3 years of experience has been in intramural sports or sport clubs experience, Club Officer and/or Officials training at the collegiate level.
Required Certifications or Licensures: CPR/AED/Standard First Aid Instructor or Instructor Trainer Certification (may be acquired after hire).
